6'4'' tall junior doctor looking for my first bike to commute to work. I don't know a lot about bikes and was hoping to find friendly staff to recommend me something decent. I walked into this shop on a quiet Saturday with only one customer in front of me. I was keen to make a purchase and had my ID and payslip with me in case i could get it through the cycle to work scheme. I ended up feeling disconsidered and rushed. I was told to come back on Monday. Your loss.
I've been to Dave a few times for a variety of cycling fixes for my road bike. The quality of his work is extremely impressive. The last job he did was a bottom bracket and groupset replacement and even with me not bringing in some of the parts he still did a terrific job and fitted a longer rear mech that works fantastically. Shifting has never been better. Very knowledgeable and helpful. 100% recommend.
Great service! I passed by the shop on the off chance as my break had been getting stuck since I took a bit of a tumble on the bike. It took him about 3 seconds to sort it and didnt charge! He also mentioned that I wasnt in a particularly good position on the bike and the handlebars should be higher. Im a runner and have been having problems with my calves lately which I now realise is also due to my position on the bike so he was totally right, knows his stuff clearly!
Re Kris Rowlands review. We all have off days sometimes and hopefully this is one off experience regarding Coast Cycles. Obviously with being an independent things can be more expensive, but as you say its a great location and I have only found the service at Coast second to none. Give them another try and I'm sure your experience will be better. I'm not from the area, but do pass through from time to time and had my first bike serviced here 2 years ago. Its been a dream to ride ever since as Dave advised on a few issues that I didn't think were important, but made all the difference to the ride. I have just collected a bike that was given to the shop on Thursday and ready by Friday afternoon for collection.I honestly don't think you would get this service from some of the other mainstream repairers or Cycle retailers. Come on Kris support your independent and shop local
Visited this shop today and found them not very helpful, when I asked about bike parts they said they don't sell any, which very clearly behind the till they have a selection, when he realised I wasn't in the shop to buy one of their slightly over priced giant bikes he just left me standing there and went in the back to continue breaking down boxes, I do believe reviews should not all be negative and this shop is in a good location with ample amounts of parking up the side street, Being my local bike shop I will not be returning to here, hopefully they was having a off day otherwise I can't see this shop staying in business.
