Lovely small museum art gallery exhibition space. Great bowl of soup in the tea room too!
What a delight this place is . Former home of the Holt family . Each room is laid out much as it was in the Victorian era and you are given a talk via a video virtual guide as if of that period , informative and light hearted. There are few staff about but all of them are friendly and can impart even more information and snippets. I would like to see more real guides in period dress acting the roles of the family and domestic staff this would transform the experience completely to another level? Good experience for drama students too? There are some great artworks on display and if like me your a Preraphaelite fan you won't be disappointed . Great way to spend a couple of hours escape into the past then finish your visit with a nice slice of cake and coffee.
Elegant home of the Holt Family, with beautiful grounds available to the public. Two Turner paintings at eye level, a lovely coffee shop, and regularly changing special exhibitions. Two rooms for children to explore and well designed activity rooms with good disabled access throughout the building. Very well informed staff. The current exhibition 'Model Image: Fashion and photos from the 1950s' is listed as ending in 2019. The exhibhition features the photographic life of international model, Jane Duncan, who was born locally. Very apt that her incredible images are close to her origins.
Sudley house is a Victorian ship owners home with the original art collection intact and is I believe the only one in the country. The grounds are great for walking your dog. A hidden gem
Love this beautiful property. The fact that we are able to wander around it and the grounds for free and visit as many times as we like is wonderful. I always enjoy looking at the family wetplate photographs which line the walls on the way to (and inside) the small cafe, sitting on the terrace to eat a sandwich or take in the view, and enjoy the changing exhibitions they display.
